The situation in Haiti compels those of us interested in self-help and personal development to extend our hands,our hearts,and our resources.
Many of us have already contributed to the relief efforts of the Haitians,because we understand that it is going to take the continuous global efforts of many to bring a degree of stability to the people and the country.
Times such as these require us to look deep into our hearts and give whatever we can as frequently as possible.
The situation in Haiti compels those of us interested in self-help and personal development to extend our hands,our hearts,and our resources to alleviate the suffering of those who have been plagued with so much misfortune.
Recently,after having given a monetary contribution in an attempt to help in some small way,I discovered that a popular shoe store,'Competitive Foot', in neighboring Oak Park, was spear-heading a drive for the collection of gently used and new shoes that would be sent to Haiti.
I immediately collected several pairs of shoes that I had not worn in a while and carted them off to the store.
The idea was such a good one that I decided to tell others. I even called friends and relatives in other states and told them about the idea, and I asked if they'd do the shoe drive or something similar.
I was encouraged by the responses,and now,I ask you: Will you consider going a step further,as I did, in your humanitarian efforts and organizing or supporting a shoe drive,or a clothes drive or a bottled water drive,or whatever you think is appropriate?
We can't do too much for the Haitians now because they are in such desperate need of everything.
In assisting the Haitians,we will help ourselves to grow in to more gentle,kind,and compassionate people who understand that as we help and lift others,we help and lift ourselves.
WHAT TO Do Next?
1. Think of some creative way you can help the people in Haiti;
2. Get family members and friends involved;
3. Consider doing 'something,' on an ongoing basis, until the people are no longer in harm's way.
